Zero to One

Notes on startups or how to build the future

What is this book about?

The great secret of our time is that there are still uncharted frontiers to explore and new inventions to create. Entrepreneur and investor Peter Thiel shows how we can find singular ways to create those new things.

The core idea and basic premise: it’s probably better to build a company/ product with a value proposition that no one else has, than to copy the existing things. Because unique solution is the new way of thinking old problems and the ability to question established patterns. This foundation should be at the heart of an innovation.  Thiel writes:“thatis what a startup has to do: question received ideas and rethink business from scratch.”

There is no reason why progress should be limited at Silicon Valley. Progress can be achieved in any industry or area of business. It comes from the most important skill that every leader must master: learning to think for yourself.

The next Bill Gates will not create an operating system. The next Larry Page or Sergey Brin won’t make a search engine. The next Ilon Mask won’t create a payment system. Tomorrow’s winners cannot win by competing in today’s marketplace. Because of their unique businesses, they will escape competition altogether.
